Title: Understanding and Managing Parental Influence in Student Advising
Lead Presenter: Xiumei Long
Date: On-Demand
Room: On Demand
Abstract: Parental influence often plays out in ways not readily visible to advisors who work directly with students. Yet parents are often a significant influence on students' college experience, which affects how we advise students for their academic and career pursuits. Therefore, finding out more about parental influence can help us better support students on multiple levels. We strive to present research on factors for increased parental involvement or lack thereof. Through case studies, we will also discuss best practices to support students when parental influence or lack of influence is at play.
