Title: Parents and Advisors: Are We Doing Too Much?
Lead Presenter: Kalani Palmer
Date: On-Demand
Room: On Demand
Abstract: Parents and advisors want to support students as they enter and progress through post-secondary education. However, too much support could potentially harm student growth. Students need the freedom to be autonomous. They also need to own their decisions. A review of the literature on parent and advisor involvement is explored. The results of a small study (n=145) examining the influence of parent and advisor involvement on student confidence are also explored. Research on what works, for whom, and under what conditions is essential for parents and advisors.
