Title: Creative License: Supporting Neurodiverse Students of the Arts
Lead Presenter: Shanieka Brooks
Date: On-Demand
Room: On Demand
Abstract: For creative based majors (including conservatories and art schools), many neurodiverse students have a unique affinity for their chosen major. This affinity is a strength that can be utilized when creating a roadmap to graduation. As many colleges are implementing specific programs and resources for neurodiverse students to use as valuable toolkits for student success and retention, disability services departments should not be solely responsible for leading this charge. Supporting the concept that "No Student Is an Island", we should be thinking, how can we best support this creative and unique student population starting from recruitment to graduation.

The presenter will address how fellow advisors can offer practical strategies to their faculty and staff on how to best support artistic majors with autism spectrum disorder, ADHD and other neurodiverse abilities.
