Title: HOT TOPIC: Where Have All the Mid-Level Practitioners Gone?
Lead Presenter: Gavin Farber
Date: On-Demand
Room: On Demand
Abstract: In a competitive profession like higher education, the climb to the top can be difficult. In 2016, a study by Marshall, Gardner, Hughes, & Lowery found the industry lost 41.7% of student affairs practitioners with between one to five years and 21.7% left after 8-10 years (p.152). It can be challenging for these professionals to feel appreciated in their role. The effects of losing mid-level advisors due to burnout, work-life conflict and loss of passion reflect a revolving issue in our industry that lasted since the 1970s. Join a roundtable that will review literature on is topic and discuss solutions to aid in the overall development of our mid-level talent.
