Presentation Info and Handouts
Conference Year: 2020
Session #: D066(LEC)
Title: No Transfer Student Is an Island: Advisor Perceptions of Student Preparation for Transfer
Lead Presenter: Karen Archambault
Date: On-Demand
Room: On Demand
Abstract: Because advisors are often the strongest resource for students before and after transferring, the perceptions advisors hold may influence the ease with which students manage transfer.

In 2012 and again in 2020, the presenters investigated perceptions advisors hold of transfer students from a wide range of perspectives e did advisors view students as successful? Struggling? Prepared for academic challenges? Responses were disaggregated to consider whether perceptions are influenced by the length of service, institutional type, advisor role or even by the demographic background of the advisor.

While the primary goal of this presentation will be to share the research, presenters will also discuss implications of the research and how attendees might use results to improve the experiences of transfer students on their campuses.
