Abstract:

Title: It takes a village to support first-generation college students on academic probation!
In this presentation, advisors will share unique challenges that first-generation college students face when they're placed on academic probation and address our approach to support those students through multiple layers of intervention, which requires collaboration, innovative thinking, and strategic planning. In this collaborative village of advisors, peer mentors, faculty, and other campus partners, the joint effort is to guide students to return to good academic standing by increasing their sense of belonging and connecting them with practical and tangible resources. Our approach enables advisors to work more efficiently with a structure that allows us to meet students where they are. This presentation is open to all advisors and administrators, but particularly those who oversee outreach efforts for students on academic probation. |
