Abstract: Mapping International Students' Academic Performance Patterns:
Addressing Underlying Issues to Promote Success and Growth

Do international students have unique academic performance patterns? If they do, how do we map them? Are there underlying issues associated with these patterns? How do we advise differently if we know the patterns and understand the underlying issues? Using a collective sense-making approach, we will share with the audience several student performance profiles and work together to map patterns that are unique to international students. Through constructing knowledge together, we will also aim at obtaining in-depth understanding of underlying issues that involve cultural adaptation, identity development, self-exploration, major choices, career aspiration and mental health. We will conclude the session with new guidelines and strategies that we can use to advise international students more effectively.
