Abstract: Academic advisors wear multiple hats and serve a variety of student populations. Given their role, many advisors may be looking for ways to engage with students outside of advising in order to foster a sense of belonging among their students. The purpose of this presentation is to discuss a yearlong program designed by an academic advising unit to provide engagement for transfer students. Specifically, this presentation will introduce Transfer LEAD (Learn, Educate, Adapt, Direct), which is a program designed to foster the development of self-efficacy and leadership among students who transferred to a four-year institution. Through this presentation, participants will learn about program development and implementation and will discuss best practices for proposing to-scale programs at their own institution.
