Abstract:
|
Professors aren't the only ones writing recommendation letters. As relational equity builds, students are asking academic advisors to speak to their scholastic ability. However, with rising caseloads it can be challenging to have deep relationships with multiple students. Thus, letter writing for students you've interacted with minimally can be challenging. This session views the writing process as a 5-step cycle: Ask, Assess, Acquire, Author, & Authenticate. Our hope is that through the lens of a cycle, advisors can better assess how to determine if they are the best fit for writing on behalf of a student, find alternatives for helping students locate a more appropriate supporter, and discuss tangible ways to expedite the writing process. Attendees will collaborate with colleagues through discussion and interactive activities to establish best practices in letter writing. |
