Abstract: Flipped Advising: Its History, Characteristics, and Efficacy

Flipped Advising provides a rich approach for advising and connecting with students. Flipped Advising provides advisors with a means of organizing curated content to help students develop and build their academic and career plans. For students, Flipped Advising provides a framework to ground their planning in evidence while having easy communication access to their advisors. Flipped Advising encompasses many considerations and components. Presenters will provide a historical perspective on the foundational elements of the Flipped Advising Approach today. Examples of the ideas and content addressed in this presentation will be demonstrated in both a Learning Management System and an e-Portfolio. In addition, the results of a research study that focused on the efficacy of a Flipped Advising Approach will be presented and its implications will be discussed.
