Abstract:
|
Advising is at a crossroads. As caseloads rise and resources shrink, advising is becoming increasingly transactional--yet strong advisor-student relationships are among the most powerful predictors of student success. Without intentional action, we risk losing mentorship and trust--key drivers of retention and engagement.
Grounded in Relational Theory, this poster presentation explores how advisors can cultivate meaningful, research-informed relationships with students-without requiring additional resources. By drawing on Uncertainty Reduction Theory, Social Exchange Theory, and Interpersonal Relations Theory, we'll examine common advising challenges and introduce practical, relational strategies to address them. |
