Abstract: As defined by NACADA, "Academic Coaching is an advising approach that pushes the student to reflect and act on the range of goals, interests and passions available in higher education." It is a tool that can be used to improve student outcomes. This presentation intends to introduce a framework that trains advisors to perform Academic Coaching. (No new positions required.) Academic Coaching can improve relationships between student and advisor resulting in improved persistence, retention, and classroom performance. This model was initially introduced as a response to challenges presented by COVID-19 and has continuously evolved. This presentation will focus on how an existing advising team identifies students, trains staff, and brings together Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, and Institutional Research with the ultimate goal of serving students.
