Title: Supporting New First-Year Students Through Data-Informed Partnerships Between Academic Advising and First Year Experience
Lead Presenter: Amy Collins-Warfield
Date: On-Demand
Room: On Demand
Abstract: First Year Experience at Ohio State University collects data to support new first-year students in transition, including students' self-reported data and formalized observations from Peer Leaders. FYE shares this data with academic advisors as an outreach tool to inform appointments, programming, and communication. In 2019-20, FYE began using a predictive risk model to assess the entire domestic first-year class, to determine who would most benefit from targeted outreach. Advisors were given access to this data to support their work. This presentation will discuss the various types of data collected by FYE, including an overview of the predictive risk model. Participants will learn how data were used by academic advisors and gain ideas to apply at their own institutions.
