Abstract:
|
This panel addresses the pivotal role of meaningful advising for structural reform in general education. Over the past three years, a number of universities across the US have received Cornerstone: Learning for Living grants to support a re-imagining of general education. But how do you get students into these general education classrooms? Recognizing the importance of effective and intentional advising for achieving this goal, Cornerstone encourages their awardees to build stronger connections between advisors, students, and faculty. Advisors from four such Cornerstone-supported institutions will briefly discuss the different advising practices they have initiated with varying degrees of success. Audience questions and discussion will follow with the goal of providing specific ideas and strategies for promoting general education at the institutions of attendees and panelists alike. |
