Abstract:

Academic Coaching 101: A Model for Helping Adult Online Students Succeed
The objectives of this session are to equip advisors who are curious about incorporating coaching into their own efforts at advising and academic student support. Using an adaptation of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, attendees will put into perspective the felt needs and inherent strategies for serving adult, online students. Then, attendees will benefit from the presentation of a model that defines a five-fold approach to academic coaching, including: growth mindset, goal setting, overcoming obstacles, strengths development, and spiritual formation (which for the purpose of this training will be viewed through the lens of personal growth and self care). |
