Title: Grieving the Dream that Died: Helping Students Process Failure
Lead Presenter: Megan LeCorgne
Date: October 28, 2025    Time: 2:45 pm - 3:45 pm
Room: Roman Ballroom II, Promenade Level
Abstract: Academic advisors assist students through many different academic and life challenges. From registration and degree progress to career planning, we educate and support students through the various successes and failures that they meet along the way. In pre-professional advising, assisting students through perceived failure is a critical component in supporting a student's success. Experiencing and overcoming failure is critical to the development of persistence and resilience, essential skills for all students. In this presentation, we explore the different types and roots of failure; connections between failure and identity; approaches to advising while acknowledging the student's place in the grief cycle; and additional resources to support students.
