Title: Reducing Attrition for Students With Learning Differences - Proactive Transition Counseling
Lead Presenter: Alexander Morris-Wood
Date: On-Demand
Room: On Demand
Abstract: 'Students who learn differently often struggle with the transition to college'. This is a common statement made by many professionals in Higher Education, yet, there seems to be a continuing struggle in determining the most effective transition plan for the college-bound neurodiverse population. Beacon College developed Navigator PREP, the country's first virtual transition-to-college program to work with high school seniors and parents the year prior to matriculation on individualized skill development in the executive functioning, social integration, and emotional regulation domains. This presentation will showcase the development of a proactive transition program, both the theory and practice behind it, and how it helped increase neurodiverse student retention, cross-campus collaboration, academic success, and social integration on a college campus.
