Title: Navigating the Hidden Curriculum - Steering First Generation Students on the Path to Success
Lead Presenter: Kerry Wallaert
Date: On-Demand
Room: On Demand
Abstract: As advisors, we often are troubled as first-generation students seem to struggle with navigating the unspoken institutional culture, known as the hidden curriculum. What, then, is our role as advisors to help first-generation students navigate the hidden curriculum of the institution? What can we do when student interactions are limited and, for some, timed to the minute? With these questions in mind, the presenters hope to shed light on the literature surrounding the first-generation student's navigation of the hidden curriculum and provide tangible action items to support first-generation students as they successfully move through their academic journey. Join the presenters for an interactive session as we discuss the uncharted hidden curriculum first-generation students navigate on each of our campuses.
