Title: It's Okay to Be Different: Academic Advising Lessons From the Umbrella Academy
Lead Presenter: Ryan Scheckel
Date: October 06, 2020    Time: 3:25 pm - 4:10 pm
Room: Live
Abstract: 'If you're raised to believe nothing about you is special, if the benchmark is extraordinary, what do you do if you're not?' Ever thought you weren't special enough? The Umbrella Academy tells the story of a dysfunctional family of ex-superheroes who band together years later to save the world (again). This graphic-novel-turned-Netflix-series demonstrates how utilizing our strengths creates hope in a world shaped by insecurities, trauma, and rejection. We all have unique strengths and abilities that can empower both us and our students. Uncover your superpowers so they can help you make a positive difference in your students' lives. Join us for an interactive session that explores strengths-based advising and its alignment with NACADA's Core Competencies. No prior pop culture knowledge required.
