Conference Year: 2020
Session #: D081(LEC)
Title: Riding the Wave of Programming: How to Bring Your Island Into an Archipelago
Lead Presenter: Sidney Stretz
Date: On-Demand
Room: On Demand
Abstract: Is your student singing "I'm On A Boat" because they are a Lonely Island? Do you wonder how you can get this student engaged, involved, and informed? In this session, our point of sail will be to tap into the benefits of academic and residential programming in partnership with advising. We will discover how advisor coordinated programming can assist and enhance the connectedness of students and contributes to a vibrant, holistic learning environment which, in turn, benefits student persistence, retention, and academic skills. Our captain will be the five tenets of successful programming: relevance, accessibility, incentive, information, and application. We connect our programming practices to research-verified tactics and show you how you can begin navigating the waters of programming at your own institution.
