Title: Getting Students Involved Using Happenstance Learning Theory
Lead Presenter: Jessica Baron
Date: On-Demand
Room: On Demand
Abstract: Research in higher education tells us that when students are involved in the campus community, they will be more successful. But how can we get them more involved, especially on a large campus where students may feel like a number? This is the question that one advisor was asking herself when she began to utilize Happenstance Learning Theory, developed by John D. Krumboltz, in her advising sessions. Happenstance Learning Theory helps advisors encourage students to become involved community members, infusing engagement with coincidence, risk taking, mindfulness, and the present moment. Come learn how to apply this theory to your own work.
