Title: A Multidimensional Academic Coaching Program for First-Generation Students Experiencing Academic Difficulty

Abstract: The purpose of this presentation is to share with participants a multidimensional academic coaching program created to help first-generation students experiencing academic difficulty. The program was developed in response to the lack of useful resources available on our college campus for first-generation students, and the looming number of students in this population who experienced academic difficulty resulting in first and second academic probation statuses, and some with academic suspension. The program, Collaborating with Lancers for Academic Success Program (CLASP), incorporates a scaffolding approach outlined through the Culturally Engaging Campus Environments Model (Museus, 2014), proactive (intrusive) advising approach (Glennen, 1975), student development theory, and the systems of change theory. The presentation is lecture style, and audience participation is highly encouraged. Participants will receive handouts highlighting our process for creating, implementing, and evaluating the program.
