Abstract:
|
Many first-year students arrive with insufficient study skills and ineffective time management habits, contributing to academic struggles that lead to warning, probation, or suspension. Our research shows that students dedicate less than one-third of the expected time outside of class for coursework, revealing a critical gap in preparedness. To address this, we initiated a proactive, pre-college intervention that leverages the time between acceptance and the start of the first semester. This initiative includes online summer workshops, peer mentoring, faculty-created study skills videos, and structured time management exercises. We will present the program's framework, share student feedback, and discuss how these strategies can be adapted to various institutional settings to improve student retention and success. |
