Title: On an Island of Our Own: Empowering Exploratory Student With the Tools to Navigate Through a Sea of Options
Lead Presenter: Caroline Marquez
Date: On-Demand
Room: On Demand
Abstract: This session will discuss the importance of empowering students to embrace their exploratory (undecided) status by providing them a neutral space in which they can discuss different academic majors. This session will provide tips on how to deal with changing student demographics and ways to encourage self-sufficiency throughout the major decision process. By utilizing innovative advising practices, the Explore Central office at Central Connecticut State University has crafted individualized student-focused advising practices that empower students to develop the skills needed to navigate towards their ideal degree program. This session will offer suggestions for building campus and community connections to help support advisees and finding creative ways to adapt current practices to better suit the needs of today's students both virtually and in person.
