Title: Empowering Students to Be the "Captains of Their Lives" Through Advisor Led Workshops
Lead Presenter: Adam McChesney
Date: On-Demand
Room: On Demand
Abstract: Learning can occur outside of an individualized setting by using an "Advising as Teaching" paradigm. There is a lot that advisers want students to know, do, and value and it's not always possible to achieve this in a 30-minute advising appointment. There is an additional approach - adviser led group workshops. In these workshops, advisers challenge students to think about their values, interests, and personality types, and to reflect on how these intersect with their major and career choices. Students are given tools to help facilitate problem solving, decision-making, career mapping, and goal setting in college and beyond. Explore ways to incorporate these methods and to ultimately give students the tools to complete their own further research.
