Abstract: Pre-Advising Undeclared Students: Recognizing the Uniqueness of Each Undeclared Student
Advisors can create more time through pre-advisement, but how can you pre-advise when a student is undeclared? How do you recognize the time constraints of advising during orientation, while acknowledging that each undeclared student has a unique set of interests, abilities, and values that need to be considered when recommending a course schedule?

At the University, we have implemented an undeclared interest form during orientation to allow for advisors to pre-advise undeclared students. This process allows advisors to provide effective and efficient individualized advisement for all undeclared students who go through orientation. We hope attendees will leave with concrete ways to apply this process during their own academic advisement of undeclared students.
