Abstract: The expense of earning a college degree has increased the stakes for today's students to connect their education with career goals beginning with their first semester on campus. To better serve students from first generation, low-income, and racially diverse populations, Emory & Henry College, a small rural liberal arts institution, embarked on a process to re-envision our advising model for first-year and undecided students. We engaged campus partners to gather input, assess current practices, and set goals, resulting in an innovative and cost-effective hybrid professional advising model. The team will share insight about creating this holistic, developmental, and strength-based advising model grounded in the NACADA Core Values and the College's strategic plan.
