Title: You Are the Port - Helping LGBTQA+ Students Navigate the Murky Waters of College Through Appreciative Advising
Lead Presenter: Amy Brock
Date: On-Demand
Room: On Demand
Abstract: Have you ever been excluded from participating in something because of your identity? Or felt that you were out of place because of who you are? LGBTQA+ students can feel that way during their entire college career. They can feel overwhelmed, isolated, and afraid. As an advisor, you are an important ally in helping students feel like they belong. Appreciative advising has been shown to help students achieve academic and personal success, build relationships within their campuses and persist to graduation. During this presentation, we will walk through the benefits of incorporating appreciative advising with LGBTQA+ students. You will leave with a better sense of how to help your students achieve their full potential and live their best lives.
