Abstract:
|
Academic advisors use spreadsheet software like Microsoft Excel frequently to view, sort, track, and share student data. The goal of this presentation is to provide an interactive, novice-friendly tutorial on a handful of Excel features that can streamline advisors' spreadsheets to save them time and stress. We will be covering how to format spreadsheets as filterable and aesthetically pleasing tables, how to freeze different columns and rows (Freeze Panes), how to identify duplicate entries quickly (Conditional Formatting), how to change the format of student names (Concatenate and Text to Columns), how to use spreadsheets to send personalized emails (Mail Merge), and how to match data from one spreadsheet to another (VLOOKUP). At the end of the tutorials, we will have a discussion where attendees can share their own useful Excel tips for advising. |
