Title: Academic Resilience During a Pandemic: Freshmen Fighting to Stay Afloat
Lead Presenter: Margaret Mbindyo
Date: October 08, 2021    Time: 8:45 am - 9:45 am
Room: 236, DECC
Abstract: First-year students face many challenges associated with transitioning to college. A brief resilience survey was developed through Qualtrics to probe academic resilience, motivation, self -regulation, mental health, feelings of isolation, time management and how freshmen have managed the pandemic related challenges. Among other things, the findings provide evidence on lack of motivation and mental health issues associated with COVID-19. The presentation will highlight major challenges that freshmen are facing during the Covid-19 pandemic. The burning issues advisors need to address in their advisement sessions including motivation, self-regulation, and student well-being at the core will be addressed. These are factors that seem to have been impacted the most by the pandemic.
