Abstract:
|
This session demonstrates how improvisational theatre (improv) principles can transform academic advising, making routine appointments more dynamic and student-centered. Through four key improv principles-listening, accepting offers, finding objectives, and raising the stakes-participants will explore how these techniques can be used to strengthen adviser-student rapport, clarify academic goals, and encourage proactive student engagement.
The session concludes with a unique, hands-on workshop where participants are guided through improv exercises to develop tangible tools they can immediately integrate into their advising. These tools will enhance the participants' ability to build trust, engage students, and foster motivation and decision-making.
This session welcomes advisers from all institutions and experience levels, offering valuable insights for both new advisers and seasoned professionals in any setting. |
