Abstract: This poster presents the results of a study conducted in the Fall 2019-Spring 2020 academic year. The goals of this study are to 1) provide suggestions to advisors on including goal-setting activities as a best-practice in developmental advising and to 2) To determine if this practice should be implemented across an engineering program. The investigator studied the relationship between engaging in goal-setting conversations and study skills, happiness with major, and academic performance (GPA) through an online, pre-advising survey. Goal-setting conversations were initiated in advising sessions. Finally, a post-advising survey asked students to reassess study skills and happiness with major. Academic performance was analyzed at this time based on student GPAs.
