Abstract:
|
In advising, you encounter students who say things are fine, but they're actually struggling. Similarly, in the game of poker, they say, 'don't play the cards, play the player.' Sometimes, what you hear or see doesn't match, so how can we better serve students in these scenarios? One helpful tool is recognizing microexpressions - facial tendencies that can express an individual's actual feelings regardless of what their words say. Knowing some of the key components of these half-a-second flashes of emotion can provide ways to better interpret what students are saying and suggest how to best follow-up. This session will provide an introduction to the seven, universal microexpressions, limitations, and ways to follow up. |
