Title: Resilience Rising: Navigating Misogynoir as Black Women Leaders in Higher Education
Lead Presenter: Dawn Matthews
Date: December 31, 1969    Time: 6:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Room:
Abstract: Amidst the complexities of higher education, Black women administrators face the unique challenge of navigating misogynoir, a potent blend of misogyny and anti-Black racism. This presentation illuminates the nuanced dynamics of misogynoir within academia and offers actionable strategies for empowerment and advocacy. Drawing from personal experiences and scholarly insights, we delve into the historical roots and contemporary manifestations of misogynoir in hiring, promotion, and everyday interactions. We explore intersectional advocacy, self-care practices, and the cultivation of inclusive institutional policies to dismantle systemic inequities. Through dialogue, awareness, and solidarity, we aim to empower Black women leaders to confront and overcome the barriers imposed by misogynoir, fostering environments where all can thrive and contribute to a more equitable and just higher education landscape.
