Title: Reflections to Connections: Using ePortfolios to Complement Proactive Advising
Lead Presenter: Aygul Hoffman
Date: October 08, 2021    Time: 8:45 am - 9:45 am
Room: 252, DECC
Abstract: Our scholarly paper will share an ePortfolio approach to empowering first-year, first generation, low-income, and underrepresented students of color early on in their college journeys at a predominantly white institution (PWI). While much of research on minoritized students in PWI settings focuses on the challenges faced by these students, we have used a student-centered approach (similar to Tara Yosso's Community Cultural Wealth model) to help students identify their intrinsic goals and motivations and empower them in their growth process. This paper will share how we used this tool in our proactive advising with minoritized students, salient issues that emerged in the process of analyzing student reflections, and implications for first-year student programming.
