Abstract: First year academic advisors at an Historically Black College and University (HBCU), use a proactive advising process that begins with the review of academic records. One of these academic records is the College Student Inventory (CSI), which first students are requested to complete prior to enrollment. Components of the CSI are compared to Chickering's Seven Vectors, a theory of student development. In this presentation, the Seven Vectors will be reviewed in relation to today's college students as well as the proactive advising process used by the institution. Also, two years of data will be shared and the assessment plan for pairing CSI responses to vector development.
