Title: Using Direct and Indirect Data to Assess Student Learning Outcomes

Abstract: Assessment allows advisors to identify important student outcomes and determine the extent to which students are achieving those outcomes as they navigate their undergraduate experience. We will present how we developed and implemented a multi-year assessment of a cohort of students. We will discuss how we combined indirect and direct measures to assess Student Learning Outcomes. Using direct and indirect measures is important because, together, they provide a comprehensive picture of students and help validate the assessment results. Additionally, we will facilitate an activity designed to help participants identify outcomes they wish to study and ideas for how to measure these outcomes using direct and indirect measures.
