Title: Career Advising, a "Practically Perfect" Pairing
Lead Presenter: Julia Beth Rey
Date: October 08, 2021    Time: 11:15 am - 12:15 pm
Room: 236, DECC
Abstract: Career advising is defined as 'helping students understand how their personal interests, abilities, and values might predict success in the academic and career fields they are considering and how to form their academic and career goals accordingly' (Gordon,2006, p.12). However, limited research currently exists and, what is available tends to focus on the exploratory/undecided population. Knowing today's student needs sustainable employment upon graduation to address student debt, career advising is a critical component of academic advising. This presentation will focus on the application of career development theory to the Terry O'Banion advising model. Small group discussions and time for questions/answers will ensure best practices may be applied to other advising models and institutions.
