Title: Soaring Together: Using Collaboration to Create an Appreciative Alternative Advising Program
Lead Presenter: Felicia Smith
Date: October 08, 2021    Time: 11:15 am - 12:15 pm
Room: 230/231, DECC
Abstract: All things ARE possible - including building an alternative advising program in less than 4 months. This session will highlight the process of launching a mandatory program for undecided or 'major reselected' students and how research and best practices informed its creation and implementation. The program is a true community-driven success story with input from all levels of the university and strategies from many different areas including popular psychology, Appreciative Advising, and marketing and engagement to Gen Z. Participants can expect to gain insight on how looking for information in new places and collaboration between the advising department, the university, and expert sources from the advising community has led to a program that is visually appealing, engaging, practical, and meets students where they are! Additionally, since this is a new program there will be insights on lessons learned in the process.
