Lead Presenter: Brandon Bush
Date: October 07, 2021    Time: 8:00 am - 9:00 am
Room: Exhibit Hall A
Abstract: Teacher education programs (TEPs) must establish admission processes that increase the TEP's likelihood of identifying second career changer applicants who can succeed in a second-admit program and as a future educator. The authors will describe how a university-based TEP in (STATE NAME) developed an interview process for evaluating a candidate's potential as a teacher before admission to the TEP, more specifically in a graduate-level TEP. This TEP's interview process provides a method of collecting data from multiple sources while avoiding the shortcomings of singularly focused evaluation systems. The interview process and scoring rubric align with state and local professional standards. Findings from the initial implementation of the interview protocol support the protocol's viability as an effective screening measure for admission purposes.
