Title: What Had Happened Was - The Power of Storytelling in Advising
Lead Presenter: Jessy Rosenberg
Date: October 07, 2021    Time: 10:30 am - 11:30 am
Room: 230/231, DECC
Abstract: We are in the age of TED Talks, Podcasts, the MOTH, and loads of social media outlets that allow us to hear and tell stories. Storytelling is one of the oldest methods of changing minds; of providing insight for an idea. Sharing stories is a way to be holistic and student-centered when assisting our students through academic and career decision-making.

Learn about storytelling activities that guide students to reflect on who they are and why they are here. Build your collection of real-life tales that will help a student comprehend the value of transferable skills and grasp the concept of the non-linear path of majors and careers. See how stories can be utilized in various advising situations from First-Year seminars to senior send-offs.
