Title: Come Together: Building an Advising Community on a Decentralized Campus
Lead Presenter: Ryan Ferrante
Date: October 07, 2021    Time: 8:00 am - 9:00 am
Room: Exhibit Hall A
Abstract: Ever wonder what best practices your colleagues are using or wish that you could find ways to connect with other advisors across campus? Academic advisors serving decentralized campuses often encounter unique challenges, including isolation and lack of connections. Our institution has over 100 advisors scattered across a large campus and our decentralized model of advising makes it difficult for our advisors to build a community with each other. This presentation will provide strategies for connecting advisors working in a decentralized system. We will identify strategies and technologies for welcoming new advisors, sharing best practices, and creating opportunities for collaboration to build an advising community on a campus. Attendees of this session will also have opportunities to share ideas to increase advisor collaboration on their campus.
