Abstract: Online learners have unique needs and as a result, there are some special considerations advisors must keep in mind when working with them. In this interactive and collaborative session, participants will explore students' perceptions of online advising and gain a better understanding of the importance of cultivating a culture of caring for online learners. We'll begin with a discussion of the unique characteristics and challenges associated with supporting online learners, and then explore different advising theories, as well as online learning theories, which can be used as a framework when working with online learners. Finally, participants will explore best practices and strategies for engaging, retaining, and supporting online learners with a focus on caring.
