Abstract:
|
Working with students on academic probation can lead to challenging conversations around students' dreams, expectations, and academic plans for success. One strategy advisors can use when working with students on probation is parallel planning. As a long-time Dream phase strategy of Appreciative Advising (Bloom, 2008), parallel planning involves exploring different possibilities simultaneously to help students achieve their dreams (Streufert, 2020). Co-creating parallel plans with students who are on academic probation can be a particularly impactful strategy that helps students re-frame and expand their major and career options. This session will cover how higher education professionals can approach parallel planning conversations with students on academic probation. |
