Title: Transforming Peer Advisor Training: Designing a Virtual Curriculum That Will Outlast COVID-19
Lead Presenter: Jessamyn Doan Ewing
Date: October 08, 2021    Time: 10:00 am - 11:00 am
Room: Zoom Room 2
Abstract: In this presentation, we outline our approach to a virtual and 'flipped' model of peer advisor training we developed during the COVID-19 pandemic, and what components of that model we will continue to use moving forward. We will share some of the specific skills that allow us to deploy our peer advisors as models of academic excellence and mentors who help create a seamless intellectual transition to college for our first-year students, and some of the training exercises that we use to prepare our student leaders for this role. We will also address the technology lessons we learned in developing this training curriculum, highlighting the tools and skills you need (and don't need) to implement something similar at your campus.
