Abstract: New Student Orientation: Promoting Well-being and Resiliency from Day One Careers in health science are stressful. Professionals in these fields often face high levels of mental health challenges and risk of suicide. In these disciplines, it is imperative to incorporate programming that fosters wellness and promotes resiliency. By starting the academic journey with intentional programming schools can set the stage for a successful future for their students. In this interactive workshop-style presentation, attendees will learn how one medical school created an orientation model incorporating wellness breakout sessions, based on the eight dimensions of wellness, in order to begin the school year with the message that well-being is a priority. Attendees will learn about the wellness model that frames the work and how to create a similar system for their institution.
