A Different Perspective: New Advisor Recruiting, Onboarding, and Thriving
Just like our students, new advisors tasked with persistence and retention efforts also experience a time of transition and need support to help them successfully retain as employees. This preconference workshop will lead participants through strategies to create an intentional advisor selection, persistence, and retention program for new advisors from their initial application for the position through their first year of work.
The presenters will highlight a variety of strategies used in high-technology sector recruiting we can apply to higher education with an equity-based lens. They will also share the details of a new advisor certification program which results in new advisor recognition as an associate fellow in the Higher Education Academy, an international teaching and learning organization.
Throughout the workshop, participants will engage in a variety of activities to evaluate, improve, and adapt their existing hiring and onboarding practices. This workshop is ideal for administrators highly involved in selection and onboarding of new employees. Participants will leave the workshop with redesigned articles for the recruitment process and an outline of a new advisor training program aligned with NACADA core competencies and values. |
