Title: Re-Imagining Transfer Recruitment: Individualized Advising as a Tool to Growing Enrollment
Lead Presenter: Daniel Wright
Date: October 08, 2021    Time: 11:15 am - 12:15 pm
Room: 204, DECC
Abstract: For too long transfer student recruitment and individualized academic advising have been two mutually exclusive ideas within higher education. With most academic advising units being decentralized within colleges, many of these professional advisors remain out-of-reach of prospective transfer students until they have fully committed to the university they are applying to. There are many reasons for this disconnect between transfer student admissions and individualized advising, chief among them being available funding and resources. This presentation will tell the story of a large public urban research institution that has taken steps to remove the barriers between transfer admissions and individualized advising, and in so doing, created an efficient transfer enrollment pipeline that mutually benefits prospective transfer applicants and the bottom line of enrollment management.
