Title: Together Toward...Lunch?: Sandwiches For Advising Theory and Practice
Lead Presenter: Erin Donahoe-Rankin
Date: October 08, 2021    Time: 8:45 am - 9:45 am
Room: 262, DECC
Abstract: Ever think advising is all about asking the right questions? And if I told you, 'that's Socratic dialogue!' would you think, but are too polite to say it, 'oh, now it sounds so dry and boring.' If a sandwich is dry and boring, you'd know exactly how to fix that-reach for the condiments! A little mayo, a little mustard...wait, you don't eat mayonnaise, not even vegan kind? Sorry about that mustard allergy. You say your friend is from a place where they put butter on their sandwiches? WHOA. Psst, isn't butter on bread just toast?... This session is just what you ordered, a deli-fresh take on Socratic dialogue and why it is the essential ingredient, the bread and butter, of advising and why advising cannot live on bread alone.
