Abstract:
|
This session explores how academic advising can guide students toward career readiness through experiential learning, focusing on a Community-Based Work-Study Program model. Despite the value of internships, many students, especially in the liberal arts, face barriers such as financial constraints that limit access to these opportunities. This program connects federal work-study-eligible students with nonprofit employers, allowing them to gain paid, relevant experience while addressing the financial challenges associated with unpaid internships. By fostering collaboration between career services, academic advising, and experiential learning centers, this initiative increases student engagement and equity. Participants will learn how integrating high-impact practices into the curriculum and ensuring accessibility can create equitable pathways for all students. The session will offer practical takeaways for embedding similar programs at their institutions to support career readiness and student success. |
