Abstract:
|
Advisors constantly seek innovative ways to support student success and learning. With the volume of information first-year students must absorb before arriving on campus, a comprehensive and accessible onboarding process is essential. This session showcases a virtual onboarding experience designed to prepare first-year students for success, including an Academic & Interest Planning Survey, weekly email communication, interactive parent and family sessions, and the opportunity for partial student self-registration in their fall course schedule. Anchored in a learning management system and enhanced by advisor-led sessions, the program fosters academic preparedness, self-efficacy, and early engagement. Presenters will discuss the benefits and challenges of implementing such a model and the key role of student self-assessment. Participants will also explore how their institutions can build effective, equity-minded online onboarding processes and use assessment to enhance student learning and success. |
