Abstract:
|
First-time Advisor? Fostering Success in Your First Advising Job: Are you a new advisor with less than two years under your advising belt? Are you a tenured advisor or administrator who wants to make a difference for your new colleagues? This discussion will explore the perspectives of new advisors, their challenges and successes, and how to best support them. 41.7% of advisors spend 1-5 years in the field before leaving for a new career (Marshall, Gardner, Hughes & Lowery 2016). This discussion will explore ways to provide new advisors with the tools they need for success, while encouraging new advisors to better promote their own health needs. Tenured advisors and administrators will leave with a better understanding of the challenges facing their newer colleagues as well as how to address these challenges to improve retention. |
